Ranch Manager(s)
JOB SUMMARY:
The Guest Ranch Manager/s is responsible for the successful leadership and general management of the Big Bar Guest Ranch (BBGR) according to the vision, objectives and strategic direction set in conjunction with the Board of Directors. The Ranch Manager is responsible for the efficient financial and human resources of the ranch, upkeep of the properties, and to build a solid tourism experience for all customers visiting the ranch. The Ranch Manager works with the SXDC General Manager, establishes effective working relationships with community groups, funding agencies, and other external contacts, providing orientation and support, and leading the ranch for the future opportunities.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Degree in Hotel Administration, Tourism, Agriculture, Business Administration or related field or equivalent education and experience.
Specialized Knowledge:
- Knowledge of Hospitality Administration and Tourism in British Columbia.
- Knowledge and experience in human resources and financial management policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of financial and reporting requirements for governments agencies.
- Knowledge of legislation regarding the BC Employment Act & Regulations, Protection of Personal Information Act (FIPPA), BC Human Rights Code.
- Knowledge of Health & Safety Program in accordance with WorkSafeBC Regulations.
- Knowledge of the BC Inn Keepers Act.
- Knowledge of working with First Nations communities.
Experience:
- Five to seven years of management of a guest ranch, a Food and Beverage or tourism business, or a business that deals with tourists as a core element of that business.
- Experience in the development of an operational plan for a business.
- Experience dealing with financial budgets, preparing financial reports and analysis.
- Experience supervising staff.
- Proven record of accessing, securing, and financial resources for a business.
- Experience working with First Nations is an asset.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Criminal Records Check.
- Must have a valid BC Driver’s Licence Class 5.
- Must provide a vehicle in good operating condition and appropriate vehicle insurance to meet program requirements.
- Must reside in the geographic region (i.e., Williams Lake, 100 Mile House) to be able to work at the BBGR on a weekly basis.
- Accommodation may be provided at BBGR.

Office Manager
JOB SUMMARY:
The Office Manager contributes to the overall success of the Big Bar Guest Ranch (BBGR) by effectively carrying out a variety of financial, administrative, and reporting requirements. The Office Manager focuses on providing the Ranch Manager with effective, professional, and timely assistance and solutions related to the financial and administrative requirements for the successful operation of the ranch.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Graduation from High School Grade 12 or equivalency.
- Business Diploma is an asset.
Experience:
- Three to four years financial and/or administrative experience.
- Demonstrated experience for administrative reliability and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining office systems and controls.
- Demonstrated experience in the use of word-processing, databases, and spreadsheets and financial software such as Quick books.
- Demonstrated experience using a Reservation Management System or similar software is an asset.
- Experience in taking minutes for senior management meetings.

Wrangler/Trail Guide
Big Bar Ranch owned by the Stswecem'c-Xgat'tem First Nation is looking for a seasonal Wrangler/Trail Guide. If you are skilled in this field and looking for a live-in position nestled in the mountains, the heart of the Traditional Secwepemc Territory is where you'll want to be! Here, you'll find many outdoor activities including trail rides, hiking, fishing, mountain biking and more.
Our high season is from April/May until September/October and outside of these months our activities are slowed down or closed.
As a member of the Big Bar Guest Ranch, you will be provided with room and board including meals while our restaurant is operating. You will have the opportunity to work with a very qualified team of passionate employees and management.
Duties/Tasks:
- Bring guests on horseback rides near our property and ensure their safety
- Routine care of the horses including any medical treatment, shots, worming, shoeing, etc. is to be recorded in a book under the medical history of each individual horse.
- Work and train different horses according to schedule by Barn Consultant.
- Maintain tack and equipment.
- Prepare horses for rides and help guests mount-up.
Requirements:
- 2 years horse/riding experience preferred
- Must be 19 years old to apply
- Must have a valid BC Driver’s License
- Wilderness First-Aid is preferred, First Aid is required

- Responding to inquiries in a timely manner, keep track and follow up.
- Following procedures for reservations and guest arrivals.
- Ensure someone is available to meet arrivals.
- Ensure accommodations are ready and in order.
- You are the contact person for guests. Provide initial welcome and describe activities.
- Keep management informed of inquiries and bookings. Report once a week on Friday mornings.
- Light bookkeeping duties.
- Meal service, service prep and tidying.
- Update lists of arrivals, departures, number of guests riding, meal count etc.
- Maintain reports for housekeeping, kitchen, and horseback riding.
Requirements:
- 1 year office/reception/customer service/related experience preferred
- Must be 19 years old to apply

- Follow a rotational menu designed by a red seal chef
- Create order list for following week(s)
- Refer to the “Ranch Sustainability” form on the compost, garbage, recycling, etc.
- Ensure all components leaving the kitchen have been tasted.
- Store food and leftovers to ensure
- Keep the walk-in cooler neat and tidy.
- Keep dry storage and clean and tidy, free of rodents.
- Do all necessary dishes of the day.
- Always refer to the recipe book for any preparation.
- Prep ahead if you have the time.
- Keep kitchen in clean working order

- Food Safe
- 1 year cooking experience preferred

Duties/Tasks:
- Checking the list from the office for arrivals and departures.
- Cleaning and stocking guest rooms in the Sagebrush Inn, Coyote Lodge and Cabins.
- Cleaning the Harrison House Guest Area (Great Room, Games Room, Library and Decks).
- Cleaning and stocking of all public washrooms, including wash house.
- Inventory of linens, towels, soaps, cleaning products etc. every second Monday.
- Ensure managers are notified in a timely manner of any ordering that is required.
- Check for damage, scuffs, dings, marks, loose objects, etc. and notify manager and Maintenance crew of any repairs that need to be made. Write them on the whiteboard in the Laundry Room.
- Wash, dry, fold and organize laundry in laundry room.
- Able to help in kitchen, office and dining room as needed.
Requirements:
- 1 year cooking experience preferred
- Must be 19 years old to apply

Here, you'll find many outdoor activities including trail rides, hiking, fishing, mountain biking and more.

As a member of the Big Bar Guest Ranch, you will be provided with room and board including meals while our restaurant is operating. You will have the opportunity to work with a very qualified team of passionate employees and management.
Duties/Tasks:
- Plan and care for appropriate plants in the garden beds: watering, planting, harvesting etc.
- Maintaining lawns and other green spaces.
- Monitor and ensure plant health.
- Use and maintain landscaping equipment, including mowers, trimmers, and fertilizers, while following health and safety regulations.
- Maintain compost and irrigation.
- Maintain all gardening equipment and machinery, like mowers, trimmers and leaf blowers etc.
- Maintain campsites, irrigation, cabins, lodge and the lake.
- Pest control to solve problems that could damage plants.
- Maintain all driveways to cabins, tipis, and campsites. Keep free of debris, animal waste and maintain in good condition.
Requirements:
- 1 year gardening/landscaping experience preferred
- Must be 19 years old to apply
